About FMT45

This class is 45-minute class with varied options, using all the skills in a high intensity work out or a technique day whereby the session breaks down a certain technique focusing on the smaller details.

 

  • HIGH intensity Muay Thai partnered session
  • Technique session (kicks, punches, defensive/evasion skills, pad holding)

 

*NOTE: Children are allowed as we have a safe play area for them while you train

About Fundamentals

This class is designed for beginners who are just starting out in learning Muay Thai, in a controlled environment mainly focusing on correct technique. It has a small element of fitness predominantly in the warm-up. All levels are welcome to join.

We will be learning:

 

  • Basic Footwork & skipping
  • 6 Basic Punches
  • Technique Kicking
  • Learning how to hold pads correctly
  • Defensive skills
  • Boxing Bag drills
  • Technical shin pad partnered drills

 

*NOTE: SMT recommends that if you have never trained before in MT to attend this class for at least a few weeks to get the basic skill set required to integrate into the MT general class so that you do not feel overwhelmed.

About Muay Thai – All Levels

This is a general class for ALL LEVELS. It will accommodate members from beginners level to advanced drills. Fitness component is generally longer during the warm-up period & during the session.

We will be learning:

 

  • Boxing bag drills
  • Thai pad holding (partnered)
  • Shadow boxing
  • Beginners/Advanced shin pad drills (partnered)
  • Footwork & skipping
  • Defence/Evasion/Catching kick drills

 

*NOTE: IT IS REQUIRED THAT THE FOLLOWING PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT BE BROUGHT AT ALL TIMES:

Intermediate & Advanced

Advanced classes will run alongside our mixed classes for advanced members only.

About Muay Thai Advanced

This class will involve a high skill set covering all areas of MT. The class is tailored from intermediate level up to the fighter level. To join this class, you must have trained regularly at SMT for at least 6-8 months or have been invited to join the group by Head Coach Spiro. The class structure will vary week by week.

We will be learning:

 

  • Technical Advanced bag drills
  • Thai pad work-Belly pad drills
  • Technique sparring & technical drills (shin pads)
  • Advanced footwork
  • Punching/Kick combinations
  • Advanced defensive/evasion skills
  • Catching kicks & sweeps
  • Elbows & Knee combinations
  • Clinching

 

*NOTE: THE FOLLOWING PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT IS REQUIRED TO BE BROUGHT AT ALL TIMES- 16OZ GLOVES, MOUTHGUARD, SHIN PADS, TOWEL, WATER.
**RUNNING SHOES FOR FIGHTERS IS A REQUIREMENT FOR A 5KM RUN PRE-TRAINING

About Strength & Conditioning

Local Strength & Conditioning extraordinaire Jamie Coote has years of experience through running his own gym for the past 4 years and coaching various athletes at sporting gyms. S&C is a vital component in progressing in any sport. Regular S&C will take your power, endurance and skill set to another level.
Open to all members wishing to participate.

About Kids Thai Boxing

Teaching children the core fundamentals & skillset of Thai Boxing. At SMT we strive to develop their listening & learning skills. The children will be learning how to work together with a partner, group scenarios as well as by themselves. SMT also has a strong emphasis on teamwork and to communicate amongst each other during our team sessions.

Skills learnt:

 

  • 6 basic punches
  • Basic kicking
  • Pad holding drills
  • Boxing bag drills
  • Body strength work
  • Light technical shin pad work
  • Games

 

*NOTE: All children must have SMT uniforms during class (Muay Thai shorts). These can be purchased from SMT. Gloves are also required which can be purchased either via SMT or through any sports store.

Technical Sparring

About Technical Sparring

Technical sparring is where we apply everything we have learned through the week and applying these skills into a session of light sparring. SMT has a strong policy on controlling technique during these sessions. All members move around with all levels. SMT places great emphasis on the higher-level members teach the beginners during this session when partnered. However, the beginners can also take note on how higher-level sparring looks like as a spectator during class.
This may or may not be something all members wish to participate in but SMT suggests you try it before making that decision or initially come and watch a session.

 

NOTE: REQUIRED EQUIPMENT IS A MUST. SHIN PADS, MOUTHGUARD, 16oz GLOVES & TOWEL
